The Asiago Plateau has its roots in the Roman era and in particular in Celtic culture. Traces of this presence can still be found today in the local dialect and in place names throughout the area. From 1310 to 1807 the Spettabile Reggenza dei Sette Comuni was an autonomous, community-based government, allied with the Republic of Venice.
The mountains and woods around Cesuna were the scene of important events during the First World War: in particular, from April 1918 the area was held by British forces, who faced Austrian troops the following June. It is still one of the most evocative places to visit the remains of the great system of trenches, armoured positions, shelters and the great “Ossuary” which, together with museums and cemeteries, keeps alive the memory of the fallen.
This historical and cultural wealth is enhanced by the natural setting of Cesuna and the whole Plateau, whose colours, made more vivid by the cycle of the seasons, are appreciated by all those who want to spend a period of relaxation and renewal along routes and paths that wind through the woods, or through the sports that can be practised on the Plateau: from mountain biking to tennis, from golf to trekking, from skiing to skating.
The many mountain dairies and workshops of small producers turn every simple walk on the Plateau into a chance to discover local food. Traditional flavours blend with the shop windows of woodcraft to offer every visitor an interesting setting with plenty to discover.
