Organising a pilgrimage or a group trip to Rome starts with one choice: where to stay. The “Maria Ausiliatrice” guest house, in Via Marghera, is a short walk from Termini station and is designed precisely for those who share a journey of faith: parish groups, priests and religious sisters, families and associations.
Who it is for
The house is run by the Salesian Sisters of Don Bosco on a non-profit basis, outside normal commercial channels. Guests share the ideals of the house and respect its rules: it is a calm, orderly setting, suited to groups who come to Rome to pray, visit the basilicas and spend a few days together.
What it offers
- 20 rooms, with air conditioning, heating and Wi-Fi.
- Rooms cleaned daily and bed linen changed every three days.
- Free parking, subject to availability.
- A convenient location for anyone arriving by train: metro and buses to the whole city leave from Termini station.
The house rules, to share with the group
Whoever leads a group would do well to explain them before departure, so there are no surprises:
- Front desk open from 12:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 21:00.
- Return in the evening by 21:00 from October to April, and by 22:00 from May to September.
- Rooms must be vacated by 9:30 on the day of departure.
- No pets, and smoking is not allowed in the building.
- Behaviour and dress in keeping with the religious purpose of the house.
How to organise the trip
- Plan your days around the evening return time. Have dinner early and save evening visits for another occasion: the rhythm of the house also helps the group to rest.
- Departure day. With rooms to be vacated by 9:30, it is worth arranging luggage storage and one last visit before the train.
- Basilicas and audiences. For papal audiences and some guided tours, groups must book in advance: do it as soon as you have fixed your dates.
- Don Bosco in Rome. The Basilica of the Sacred Heart, which Don Bosco had built, is very close to Termini station: a natural stop for a Salesian group.
