Villa Crawford, in Sant’Agnello, brings together two rare things: a historic residence overlooking the Bay of Naples and spaces designed for group work. It is open all year round and since 1954 it has welcomed the young people who gather here for a few hours of recreation and prayer.
Who it is for
The villa lends itself to retreats for parish and youth groups, formation meetings, and meetings of associations and governing boards. Organisers will find rooms of different sizes and a park where the conversation can carry on in the open air.

The rooms in the villa are spacious, on three floors served by the lift, and half of them look out to sea. The garden rooms are in the park, separate from the main building, simple in style and with a small outdoor table: a good option for group leaders or for anyone looking for more peace and quiet.
How to organise the gathering
- Plan the spaces around your programme. Plenary in the large room, group work in the small rooms, breaks in the park: ask the house which rooms are free on your dates.
- Make use of the villa’s history. The writer Francis Marion Crawford had the motto “In tempestate securitas” carved on the ramparts, a safe place in the storm: a natural starting point for a meditation or for opening a meeting.
- Out of season. The villa is open all year round: autumn and spring are ideal for a quiet retreat, away from the summer crowds on the coast.
- A free afternoon. Sorrento and the sea of the Peninsula are just a stone’s throw away.
